Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School pupils and staff attended a special Mass for the Bicentenary of Catholic Education at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney on Monday.

Principal Brother Nicholas Harsas and Religious Education Coordinator Rita Messina were joined by school captains Mia and Matthew and faith leaders Alexia and Aliya for the celebration.

“This was an historic occasion in the history of Catholic education in our country and one we are very proud of,” Brother Nicholas said.

“Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School has been in existence for less than 20 years but this bicentenary is still an occasion for our school to celebrate the 200 years for we are part of something bigger.

“It is 200 years since the first Catholic school was started in Parramatta back in 1820-1821.”

The Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School contingent got photos with NSW Governor Margaret Beazley and the former Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools, Brother Kelvin Canavan, who agreed to Holy Spirit School being established in 2002.
